On October 21– 22nd the eminent American psychoanalyst Dr. Prof. Vamik Volkan held in Saint Petersburg two seminars dealt with the narcissistic personality organization. This programme was organized and hosted by East European Psychoanalytic Institute and the European Confederation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies.

Dr. Prof. Vamik Volkan, M. D., is an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia; an Emeritus Training and Supervising Analyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, Washington, DC, and the Senior Erik Erikson Scholar at the Austen Riggs Center, Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He holds Honorary Doctoral Degrees from Kuopio University, Finland (2005) and from Ankara University, Turkey (2006).

Dr. Prof. Volkan is internationally known as a prominent clinician and a recipient of the large number of professional awards. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for four times, supported by letters from 27 countries, for carrying out projects in various troubled spots in the world for 30 years and examining conflicts between opposing large groups, and for developing psychopolitical theories.

Dr. Prof. Volkan is the author of more then 50 books dealt with clinical psychoanalysis and political psychology. Among them: Blind Trust: Large Groups and Their Leaders in Times of Crisis and Terror, Searching for the Perfect Woman: The Story of a Complete Psychoanalysis, The Infantile Psychotic Self and Its Fates: Understanding and Treating Schizophrenics and Other Difficult Patients and many others.

The seminars were a great success. More than 100 people attended them.

According to the decision of the Academic council of the East European Psychoanalytic Institute Prof. Dr. Reshetnikov, the rector of the institute, awarded Prof. Dr. Volkan with the diploma of the Honorary doctor of the East European Psychoanalytic Institute.

The EEPI and ECPP are planning to organize new Dr. Prof. Volkan's visits to Russia.
